Yes saabdoc, I was mistaken - the MotoRad thermostat is 195 deg F. so using Stephen's calculation the degree difference is less than 2.8 deg F.
Thinking more about it and given Stephen's insights, it is likely best to order OEM from Euro since the Fail-Safe feature of locking in the open position at each overheat condition also means needing to change the thermostat after each and every overheat condition versus OEM thermostats that may well survive certain overheat conditions.
The thermostat currently in the car, for 3.5 three years now, is the MotoRad Fail-Safe product. My thinking then was the Fail-Safe lock up feature was an especially good idea given the other family members that drive the car as I was afraid they would not act appropriately fast enough if they experienced an overheat condition.
