SID fuel consumption accuracy?

On our '97 900 Talladega, the SID fuel consumption value (mpg, or l/km for this part of the world), was very accurate (it was giving the same numbers as the ones calculated by me).
On our '99 9-5 SE, the l/km number displayed by SID was always too low (ie. the real consumption was higher than the number calculated by SID).
On our '02 9-5 Aero, the number is too low as well. I haven't collected too much data points yet, but after a 400 km trip, SID said the fuel consumption was 9.0 l / 100 km, but the actual consumption was 9.7 l / 100 km. I believe the error is always there (SID seems to be too optimistic all the time).
What is wrong? Should I take the car to the dealer and ask them to calibrate the SID display or..? Our 900 was used, so maybe SID had been calibrated before we bought the car? Or are SIDs just getting worse? :-)
(Yeah, 9.7 l / 100 km is a high number, but given the way I was driving... :-)
