I'm one of those that has nothing but praise for the new 5 spd auto.
If I'm not mistaken, the throttle on the 9-5 is "drive by wire" so is a lot more sensitive than the traditional cable set up. Maybe you should adjust your driving style.
Although the Saab engines are programmed to adjust according to the gas quality used, personally I don't use anything less than 98 octane in my '02 Aero.
