Need help identifying problem - 2000 9-5, 160k

My 2000 9-5, 4 cyl, 5 speed continues to drive fairly well at 160k miles and I am hoping for 200k.
I need help with two items that I can't seem to resolve.
1) Low Coolant Warning on SID is now fairly frequent. I top it off and that takes care of it but within 30-60 days it comes back on. I assume the issue is the coolant bypass valve, but I can't find any leakage?
2) Strange high pitched whirring when accelerating. I can only hear this with the windows open, and it only happens when accelerating and the car is moving. (i.e., just pressing on the gas in neutral does not create the noise). I am about 55k since I last changed the belts, but I thought that I would also hear the noise in neutral if it was a belt issue.
Any other ideas on what to check?
