It's one of the best engines SAAB has every used. And the Automatic Transmissions in the old generation 9-5 is a japanese transmission! As is the Auto tranny in the NG900, OG9-3 and current 9-3.
You know the first SAAB 99s had engines designed and built by Triumph. My 1969 SAAB 95 wagon and 1974 Sonett III had Ford V-4 engines.
SAAB did most of the development work on the 2.8 Turbo for GM. SAAB was also the first GM brand to use that engine in the 2006 9-3 Aero. The engine is part of GM High Feature V-6 Egines with displacements from 2.8l-4.0l
LP9 Turbo
2.8 L turbo V6 in a 2006 Saab 9-3The LP9 is a 2.8 L turbocharged version is used for the Saab 9-3 and other GM vehicles. It has the same bore and stroke as the naturally-aspirated LP1, however the compression ratio is reduced to 9.5:1. GM Powertrain Sweden (Saab Automobile Powertrain) was responsible for turbocharging the engine and it is built in Port Melbourne, Australia
The GM High Feature V-6 engine design is also used by Alfa Romeo as the JTS V-6 And a version is used by Suzuki in the XL7 SUV.
