Wagon Springs and Shocks Posted by jeff02 [Email] (#2992) [Profile/Gallery] (more from jeff02) on Sat, 16 Oct 2010 15:45:07 In Reply to: Front Struts & Rear Shocks 2001 9.5 V6 SE wagon, asfrey, Fri, 15 Oct 2010 11:41:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have two wagons that I had to do this to and here is how I think it goes.
1) The wagon is heaver in the back and springs and shocks tend to wear out sooner
2) Replace the springs with new springs from Saab. This will cost a little bit like $160 or so for the parts. Make sure to get the correct ones.
3) Purchase Monroe shocks. MUCH CHEAPER and they are just as good.
4) Mount the new struts on and measure ride height for procedure. If low (Probably will be) find difference and do one of two things
a) pay someone to replace bushings etc in the back (lots of dollars) and this *might* fix the ride height problem
b) purchase ride height lifts for a few dollars, install in struts and ride height will be fixed.
5) Align the car by a good shop for 3 wheel alignment, just to be sure.
6) Measure ride height from time to time to make sure it is staying.
Bottom line, the springs designed for this car seem not to last long / wrong tension / etc. Even some of the new ones.
