When your turbo shaft failed, oil poured into the turbo housing that was previously limited by the shaft and seals...this massively increase the oil flow through the turbo oil feed. Net result was that your oil pressure dropped. This possibly caused the main bearings to wear and now you have excessive clearences in the main bearings...this is causing oil to drain out too quickly so at idle your oil pressure falls low enough the light comes on and the oil film around the bearings is inadequate.. which will cause accelerated bearing wear to the point they will fail and the engine will develop a loud knocking noise. Using a MUCH thicker oil will strengthen the oil film and can possibly buy you tens of thousands more miles.. as it is failure is pretty inevitable. I have no idea why you are so unwilling to use thicker oil... it's not going to hurt anything... ran 10K km with 5W50 and the engine is just fine. I would go with 10W60 in your case though.
