I think ATE is the real ones EXCEPT, the genuine comes with the push tube installed and calibrated but after market, it has to be moved over from one to the other and if you are not careful, you end up with an incorrect height of the brake pedal.
The 02 and up have the mounting studs for brake master cylinder situated about 90° off from 01 and older so it makes it impossible to interchange. Otherwise it looks to be the same. But it could also be more things internally like brake force and such that's tuned to the different brake systems between the two years.
