Both are reasonably common issues.
First problem sounds like the wiring harness into the trunk lid is fraying/breaking from all the trunklid open/close cycles. It's not a huge deal to fix-it can be spliced or else buy a new trunk lid harness.
The second? Not quite sure, but the backup battery or capacitors inside the alarm module could be the cause. If you don't need an alarm, a tech with a Tech-II can disable the alarm and make the STA messages go bye-bye.
