I've done almost 100% of my cars (4 ) maintenance & repair work (alignments excluded) - including some engine rebuilds years back, but if I can find a reputable shop that will flush my transmission for $ 100 to $ 150 - depending on the fluid type - I'll go with that. I've had a brakes plus do a flush for $ 100 on other cars and it works just fine - and yes they have a machine and i trust they use it - but they won't work on the Saabs. So I did a drain and refill on my 1999 9-5 and my 2004 9-5 - but the next time I may disco the lines and use the circulating pump to get all the fluid changed out, I just can't see doing 3 drain and refills as effective use of my time. It just depends on how difficult it is is to disco the lines.
And citing a dishonest dealer who told you they do a flush but in reality a drain and fill is an entirely different scenario. I never had a 60k service done but I didn't think that a transmission flush was part of that.
Lots and lots of shops use the machines and modern transmissions are way more durable than the automatics of years past - I remember when front seal on automatics would begin to drip around 80k to 100k.
