"New" DI cassette = ripped off?

Hoping you all can help me -- I recently purchased a DI cassette that was presented as "new," and paid a "new" price to acquire it. It arrived, and is quite clearly used. It has a 2022 date code, and the paint is worn off around the holes where the torx bolts secure it. It also has paint worn off on the underside, where the ridge in the valve cover rubs against it. It's more worn, in fact, than the original 1999 DIC I am removing.
These indicators DO tend to show that this is a used cassette, no? It is quite dirty/dusty as well, but the new DI cassettes I have seen are al uniformly painted across the top. The paint only rubs off around the screw holes AFTER things have been installed, no?
Thanks all!
