Low fuel light on , tank is full

On my 2004 Linear, the low fuel light stayed on after a restart. The tank was almost full.After driving down the road a 1/4 mile the guage works properly. Is this yet another common failure of the combined fuel pump and fuel level float? Has anyone repaired this problem without replacement? Thanks for any ideas.
