Tips for Thermostat Replacement

I started out a couple weeks ago by following the instructions on fixmysaab.com - got the drain plug to turn, drained the antifreeze, squeezed the hose clamp at the thermostat housing on the back of the engine and worked it down-hose. Then for the life of me, without cutting the hose, could not remove the hose from the housing. I gave up, worked the clamp back and refilled with new antifreeze.
I read a post by someone who said don't worry about taking the hose off. That was my approach today. Got the 4 housing bolts off after some trial/error (have a stubby socket wrench that helped - as well as loosening two bolts by using an extension and accessing back by the firewall.) I then pulled off the housing, took out the thermostat, replaced the temperature sensor, re-installed the housing, re-filled w/ antifreeze (didn't drain, just let about a liter spill out) and viola! 1.5 hrs and a moderate DIY'er was able to complete the project. Thanks again Saabnet!
