No, there are no good ways of testing an air mass meter by bench testing even though some car manufacturers says so in their literature (Volvo). Especially one that is starting to go bad. If it has gone bad so that the car doesn't run, it can be easy by plugging another one in, kind of like with a fuel pump. Bad fuel pump engine don't run, good fuel pump, engine run.
On the newer Saab's, using the Tech 2, and reading air mass deviation values can sometimes give you a hint that something is going bad with it but it could also be different air and vacuum leaks in suction or pressure pipes so you cannot condemn the air mass meter just by looking at that value and not do any smoke testing of the intake system.
