I have replaced the cup holder on our 2000 9-5 a couple of years back. I removed the radio, and then used a flashlight and an inspection mirror (mirror on a swivel handle) to determine how the cupholder was fastened inside the dash. It is attached with two torx screws and the challenge is to remove the two screws without dropping the into behind the dash area.
I placed a small rag under where the screws are attached so that if by chance I dropped the screws they would fall onto the rag and then I could still retrieve them. Then used a quarter inch ratchet with a torx bit attached to remove the screws and remove the cup holder.
Once you can see the screws, with the inspection mirror and a flashlight, the process of removing the screws and replacing the cupholder is not all that bad.
