I was swapping out the wood trim around the shifter in my car and the torx socket slipped out of my fingers and fell in the hole. Not sure where it went, but I'm guessing it's somewhere inside the shifter housing, since that seems to be the path of least resistance, though it may have gone down towards the driver's footwell.
Anyone got any ideas on how to locate and extract it? I tried poking around with a piece of wire coat hanger, then again with a strong magnet taped to the end and no luck. Tomorrow I'm going to borrow a small dental mirror and to try to "see" it. I don't want to take out the shifter until I'm sure that's where it is.
