Just got the engine installed in my project 99 9-5, I'm using a B234 block w/ B235 head, 234 head gasket per postings on this board... Started it up today, after running 20 minutes or so, occasionally up to 2000 rpm or so, no real change in the amount of lifter noise - I've had them take awhile to quiet down before, but usually you can hear them die off one by one and only a couple are left noisy, but here, nothing... So...
Pulled the valve cover, lots of oil laying around, cams are oily, but lifters compress easily w/ my finger (hot!). It occurred to me that when I took the old motor apart, I found the grey "bad" head bolts, but being that I have a ton of B202 head bolts around, I used those instead. Could this be related? I am trying to recall, I think that the lifters are fed via those 2 head bolt holes nearest the timing gears (along w/ the chain tensioner) - but are the cam bearings fed the same way, or through another passage? But wasn't that true on the old motors also? Though now that I'm thinking about, the bolts I used have an un-threaded larger neck, the ones I took out were threaded all the way up.... Hmm... Or am I barking up the wrong tree here?
Thoughts?
Thanks, as always...
