Here is an idea if you're still having problems reinstalling the heat shield and machine screw. I switched from the original oval-headed machine screw to the same diameter metric Cap Head Socket screw. I tried several different lengths until I finally used one about 3cm long. I was thus able to start it in the threaded hole in the block with my fingers and finally tighten it with the torx bit in a swivel socktet with extension. Due to its length, I could see what I was doing from the above the engine the entire time. I used about five small washers to take-up the "slack" between the heat shield and the cap head on the screw.
