SW tailgate shock replacement - tips

I replaced the shocks in my tailgate this weekend. Took a little over 1 hour, no major issues except for a bit of cursing getting the clips reinstalled. I opted for ScanTech shocks. The failed shocks were Lift-O-Mats. There was leaked oil visible on the upper side of the headliner.
Obviously the previous owner had this done once (or the car was built on a Monday morning), as the rearmost ball/socket connections had no retaining clips installed!
A few helpful tips:
- I used an extendable painting pole with a tennis ball partially skewered on each end to hold the tailgate up (after shock failure and during replacement). Wedge between tailgate and bumper.
- if you're over 6' tall, you can lie on your back in the boot and use your feet to press up on the tailgate whilst installing the rearmost sockets of the replacement shocks.
- I used the smallest available needle-nose pliers to install the clips, as well as a dental mirror.
- use a bungee cord to hold down the headliner to give you enough room to work around the shocks.
Not a bad job, even in 100F heat here in NC.
Hope this helps somebody.
