Thanks to Jeff02, the bar clamp worked to press piston into caliper.
Both new pads went in easily but, now I cannot get the caliper with new pads installed back onto the yoke. The piston appears fully depressed into the caliper and all I can see is the rubber seal. However, the Akabono pad material seems too thick to allow both pads to be spread enough to fit over the rotor thus preventing the caliper to align with the 7mm hex holes in the yoke. I'm using a "bigger hammer" to try to force the caliper with pads further onto the rotor. Not sure how hard to pound or if I might be risking damage to the new pads or rotor by hammering? I have checked the fit of the pad ears onto the yoke against my other 9.5 and they appear to fit well in the correct place.
