Twice unit question

Bought what was supposed to be a refurbished unit on ebay. Appears used instead as mounting tabs are broken. Seems unlikely that a refurbisher would have refurbished a unit like this or at least should have access to better condition housings. I have looked through other posts but don't have any answer to this. If have a (used or reflashed) twice unit that is matched to a remote will the remote operate the locks etc prior to the dealer mating the twice unit to the car. I know it won't start the car until I have a key and tech II programing completed but is there away to confirm that twice unit is actually matched prior to taking car to the dealer. The nearest dealer to me now is close to 100 miles away. So the car has to be towed there I would like to avoid the scenario where discover at dealership that won't work because not matched and have the dealer offer to fix it for 2k. Saw some posts that keys are hard to get now. Is that true?
