Oil pumps Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 4 Dec 2011 16:11:56 In Reply to: changing or rebuilding 2000 aero engine, upgrades?, STEVEWANTSA95 [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 4 Dec 2011 13:21:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The B235 enigne uses a Gerotor style pump as opposed to the gear pumps used in earlier engines. A Gerotor pump is more efficient at moving fluids but since it doesn't use a spur gear and standard ring gear some people feel it is weaker. Clearly a gerotor is not suited for transmitting motive power but it is better at its intended function of moving fluids. Personally I wouldn't worry about the pump design and instead concentrate oil pump concerns on seal condition, whether there is any measurable pump wear, and making sure the intake screen is spotless.
It sounds like new rod bearings are a necessity. How are the main bearings and the piston rings? Since the engine is all apart you may consider forged pistons and rods.
