Hi All,

Yesterday morning, my 2002 Aero (manual trans.) was very difficult to start on a 53-degree F. morning. That had never happened before--usually it just snaps into life. Moreover, on my way to work, I noticed a distinct misfire whenever I gave it moderate throttle levels. Additionally, the mpg readout registered much lower-than-normal mpg: 22-24 rather than the usual 28-30 at a 65-mph cruise. There were no codes and no CEL light flashed.

On my way home from work yesterday--after (again) a very difficult cold start--I stopped on the side of the road since I now had a CEL and changed out the DIC to a spare used one I keep in the trunk. There was no change in the car's behavior.

I got home and started work on changing out the CPS (I had ordered one earlier in the spring just as preventive maintenance, but hadn't
t ever gotten around to installing it). I finished that up about an hour ago, and again, no change: a difficult cold start and misfires at moderate throttle.

I have checked the vacuum hoses, and I think they're okay. Some additional thoughts:

1) I bought a tankful of gas three days ago (Sat.), and I think I recall an odd pattern to the idle on my way home from the gas station. At the time, I didn't put much mind to it. The hard start was two mornings later (Mon.), though, and I did do a fair bit of driving on Sunday.

2) When I did that driving on Sunday, it was in pretty rainy weather. Perhaps something got wet?

Basically, I'm in a pickle here, b/c I don't know where to go next in the problem solving flow-chart. I know it's not the CPS, and I feel strongly it's not the DIC. (I have not checked the condition of the spark-plugs.)

Thoughts?
