I think correct. The NSS sends a code to the computer and if this code does not make sense (NSS is faulty) then the compter throws a code for that (I call it the starburst icon on the dash). This is what happened once for this car.
Also, the indicator on the dash for the trans position did not match the handle position. I *think* the computer then puts the trans in a "trans limp" mode (gear 3)? Someone else can confirm this....
I just wanted to know if the computer can also lock the shifter in Park when this happens or it sees a problem with the NSS.
I cleared the codes and then raked the shifter back and forth a bit and now no problems. Have a replacement NSS on the way.
