GT-17 Turbo replacement questions..... Posted by vsfoxe [Email] (#1025) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vsfoxe) on Thu, 14 Jun 2012 22:21:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
2001 Saab 9-5 Station Wagon, 154,800 miles. Just bought one for granddaughter, with a bad turbo - smokes a LOT but boosts fine. Before I simply order a rebuilt one, I'd like to consider rebuilding the old one. Do I start by removing the old turbo, and checking for wobble, and making sure the wheels haven't contacted the housing? If there is any sign of contact, I'll have to get a rebuilt? More info on what I'm looking for in inspection of the old one?
If all checks good, I can order a "GT17, GT15, GT20 Turbocharger DIY Rebuild Kit (9-3 or 9-5)". Do I also need a "T25, GT17, or GT15 360 Degree Turbine Oil Seal" to do the rebuild correctly? I wonder why that 360 degree turbine oil seal is not in the DIY Kit?
I'm not afraid of the work - I just want to get the right parts if the old unit is still good. TIA. Vern
