And the scraping noise is...

My wife had been complaining about a scraping noise from the LF wheel first thing in the AM or late PM when leaving work. Not any other times.
Brakes are half worn. It wasn't a CV joint or wheel bearing noise and would go away in a few miles.
So it turns out the splash guard for the LF rotor is biodegrading and some rusty chunks were getting lodged in a spot where they made the noise. I guess they'd move around so they'd go away when the car was driven. Anyway,
whacking the back of the splash guard with a screwdriver handle, plus some gentle bending and more tapping dumped a load of rusty debris on the ground and the noise is gone. Will R&R the guard next time I do pads and rotors.
