Yes it does and Saab actually came out with a software update to reduce the intervals and change how it ran the calibration on 01 and older since customers for the early 9-5's complained that the system shut down sometimes (during the calibration).
Then they came out with another software update in 2005 for the 05 and older models that changed the fault detection of step motors and improved A/C performance. Not quite sure about what improvement it meant.
