My Arc has 104K miles and for some time, it's been mushy up front. Going over speed bumps can cause it to bottom out. I bought some new Bilstein struts - didn't have a brand choice due to the price. $35 each plus shipping I found on Ebay. Anyway, I was expecting a difficult task but it wasn't bad at all. Only like 7 fasteners to get out the assembly. Only thing I couldn't do is to torque the upper nut on the strut to 76 ft pounds. Barely got the nut tight at all. Ended up grinding the sides of a 7/8" socket so I could put a 24MM wrench on it and then use the allen wrench to hold the strut's shaft. As it was, I just turned the allen wrench into a pretzel. After she was all buttoned up, test-drove and it's like getting a new car. The back shocks were replaced with Sach's OEM's at 50K miles so I think I need to do the backs also. Hoping the back shocks aren't any more difficult than the front struts. The old Sachs front struts are gone. No leaks but no dampening action left. Should I put matching Bilstein shocks in the rear or something else? Anyway, my car has had easy miles and the struts were shot. So I'd recommend replacing them if you are at or near that mileage.
