2004s are very nice - along with 2005s perhaps the best 9-5s. I have a 2003 and I'll keep it forever. Your car is probably worth about $4000-$5000, even less in trade. So the question is, should you spend almost the full worth of the car on repairs? Yes, I think so. Even if you get just 24 more months out of it, that's effectively $166/month for a car you know and like. You couldn't buy anything remotely as good for $4000.
You'll certainly get more than 24 months out of it, so your economics just get better.
