Since one of the buttons is working and the other is not, I would be tempted to take apart the remote and give the circuit card a good blast of contact cleaner. Inspect the board for any damage. Check the buttons on the key case and make sure there is no build up of crud that prevents the external button from pushing the switch on the circuit board. Look at the battery contacts an make sure they are tight and clean. Try pushing the buttons on the naked circuit board with the battery connected and see if the remote works then.
Use the working remote to see how far you can get from the car and still have the remote work. Is that consistent with its performance in the past? You could have a damaged antenna on the car-end that is reducing the system's performance so that the marginal remote is not strong enough to overcome the receiver's weak point.
