I know a lot of people on here run the purolator pure one oil filters on their 9-5's and other SAABs, be it the normal size or the oversized filter. I've been running them on my 9-5 and my lady's 9-3 for a couple of years. For whatever reason, I always seem to have a tough time getting them off. I'm not sure if I'm putting them on too tight? I give the gasket a good coating with oil before putting them on, and only tighten them by hand. But when it comes time to take them off, using my strap style oil filter remover, the filters almost always seem to wind up needing to be crushed and deformed just to get them loosened up. Often times this results in the case breaking on the filter and oil shooting out.
So, does anyone else have issues removing them? Am I putting them on too tight? Does my strap style filter wrench just suck? Or maybe the cases on these filters are bit thinner/weaker than others?
I just did an oil change last night in the 9-3 and switched to a wix filter (same as napa gold). I'm hoping maybe it comes off a bit easier...
