2006 9-5... bringing it up to snuff Posted by turbosaab [Email] (#9999) [Profile/Gallery] (more from turbosaab) on Sat, 13 Oct 2012 07:37:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Recently purchased a 2006 9-5 with 135K. This is my sixth Saab, but my first 9-5, so I'm still getting up to speed on the "quirks" of this model (sorry for using the Q word ;) The example I purchased had basic maintenance done (synthetic oil changes, ATF) but was not serviced by a Saab specialist, so I'm trying to bring it up to speed and do some preventative maintenance. Here is what I have on the list so far:
- new serpentine belt, tensioner and idler pulley
- new cat-back exhaust due to rust
- cabin air filter
- engine air filter
- coolant flush and new thermostat (any hoses I should change?)
- coolant bypass valve
- change power steering fluid w/ Pentosin 11S
- spark plugs
- spare DIC
- check/replace transmission mounts
- monitor subframe bushings
- battery was replaced this year, also has new pads and rotors all around
I am assuming the water pump has never been replaced... when should I plan on this? I've also read that the alternator is not really servicable and must be replaced as a unit - on the 9000s, I usually got to ~140-180K before replacing brushes, is that typical for the 9-5 as well? I am hoping that because this car is highway miles it will be at the long end of the range for that.
I'm a bit weirded out by the new-style fuel pump assembly that this car supposedly has. I have never owned a 9000 for any length of time without having the fuel pump fail on me, so I was going to replace it preventatively, but it appears to be a $900 part rather than $100 part like the old ones. Also, no separate fuel filter!
