Reposting the same message I posted at another Saab forum. If I get a solution I will make sure that gets to both boards to help anyone else in the same situation. Here it is:
Saab 95 2001 Aero
I have a P0420. Its the only active code right now.
I got a stage II tune to my ECU recently. The Ioff reading is running at around 0 when I am at idle or cruising. When accelerating it is really high. Steady acceleration gives me a Ioff of about +40 to +60 but high throttle is near to more than +100 so its delaying the spark a lot. Maybe thats nothing to do with this.
I put in a 2006 air intake so its basically stock but the intake tube is a bit bigger. Before the ECU change that gave me a nice bit of extra oomph on initial take off. I dont ride the car hard but I like to make sure the power is still there once in a while
At the same time of replacing the air intake tube I also replaced my original and rusted out catback with a 2.5" BSR catback. Very nice kit by the way. This was all about 3 weeks ago.
I noticed right away the exhaust gases were really hot from what I remembered them being. Every day I clean the exhaust tip as it gets black stuff on it that wipes off like dust but dries on like it had been liquid coming out the pipe.
The turbo has screeched for years, only when approaching red, but still performed. I got black smoke out the back when I was entering the highway but the engine was still cold. None when hot. I dont get that with the new exhaust. I am going to rebuild it but I am not in a hurry. Maybe in next 3 months. I hope I'm not filling the mufflers with oil.
I just bought the PCV #6. My sump and engine are spotless on the inside but why not replace the PCV so I bought it and it was delivered Friday.
Now I have this code.
I replaced the 02 sensors maybe 25k ago but I dont know what made me do that so maybe I had a P0420 before, cant recall. Hmmm, I think I replaced the DIC at about that time.
I have never had oil on the garage floor and dont at the moment. I am using quite a bit of oil. So it was odd to see the black smoke disappear.
I dont mind and actually would love to do the GS 3" downpipe with cats but dont want to do something like that with a situation that might destroy those cats if I already have destroyed those I have.
Any help would be appreciated.
