The thing is, you don't really want to dislodge anything that the screen can't process and as we have seen, nothing but pure oil seems to be able to get through that fine meshed pickup.
So as long as everything is in static suspension clinging to the walls as it has been for eons, the engine might survive longer than if you start to dissolve stuff.
That's why I don't believe in engine flushes either unless you make a provision for that the dirt dislodged has a way to get through the screen and into the oil filter while driving.
I have to see if I can dig up a pickup tube from an old 900 and measure the holes for comparison. Those never had any oil starvation except when some pieces came through and seized the oil pressure valve wide open. Sigh
Since I also work on Volvo's I can give you an example where it works better. The new Volvo's have their fair share of crank case ventilation problems and update galore but they also have a slightly coarser mesh so every time when I change the oil, I rinse out the coffee ground from oil filter cup of the owners running the oil too long or running low on oil or doing too many short trips and cold starts.
It can be quite a bit of dirt every 5K oil change interval even on the longtime customers where I have done many oil changes.
It goes to show that something is up with the engines nowadays and how they break down the oil.
