When I bought my car the black mirror surround was all bashed up but the mirror glass and painted cover were intact. I removed the mirror glass and painted cover, replaced the black part, and it all went back together. The cover tabs are FRAGILE but can be popped out with care from inside, once the glass is removed.. If I think of it I'll pop my mirror glass out tonight and snap a picture of how everything works back there.
