That is not true. My 6yo daughter's Century Breverra Ascend SE carseat is approved for aircraft use with the 5point harness system only (there is a sticker on the seat required for use in airplanes). We used it on a flight a couple of years ago. Just checked out a couple of their (Century) infant seats and selected models of their SmartFit and Vanta infant seats also meet the "for aircraft use" requirement. I haven't researched other carseat brands, but I'm sure that other makers also have some models that are also approved for airplanes.
