Had aftermarket Xenons installed in my 99 9-5 V6. Hella ballasts/starters went right behind the headlight assemblies. Philips lamps. Whole deal cost USD 650 installed (labor is cheap here in Russia). Only mod was a custom adapter to put the HID lamp into the H7 holder in the headlight. This makes it possible to just snap in the original lamps if needed, reconnect the wires and presto. Wires hold out fine, fuses hold out fine, result is great, and even the focusing of the headlights is correct. Only thing I do now is keep the manual headlamp levelling switch one notch down to avoid blinding oncoming traffic.
Good luck,
Yury
