SwedeCar, I broke the lever by being dumb. Initially it was fine. But I had boxed it back up until this weekend when I had more time. Removing it this time broke it. But it had to be weak.

The good news is that I just now got the drum to release. You can access part of the drum on the passenger side by removing the bend door motor and the floor vent elbow. Then I started trying to rotate the drum. It started to give, and I could hear pieces of something falling down. As I was able to rotate it more stuff fell, and the drum turned better. I bet pieces of windshield glass were the culprit. The previous owner had a limb break through the windshield. When I was taking things apart you could still see little glass shards in places.

The other good news is that perhaps I can now help somebody on Saabnet with ventilation questions on newer 9-5s. There are a few differences between it and my 2000 9-5.
