If you mount it high, you are less likely to get laser warning. The beam spread on the laser is so small that a detector mounted near the rear-view mirror may not even go off if you are hit in normal aiming spots(either front license plate or grill). OTOH, if you mount it low, be careful not to obscure the dash sensor for the climate control(center of dash near windshield).
If there is wiring present for the sunroof, you should be able to tap in to the overhead console. The sunroof controls are ignition controlled. The light controls are not, so you would not get automatic power off when you turn the car off.
