Persistant Oil leak

Have a 2002 Aero, oil leak, area of passenger side near: pan, oil filter mount, harmonic balancer, PCV check valve. Appears wettest un frame rail below harmonic balancer.
So far replaced: sealing washers on trans lines @ radiator, Oil pump seal, PCV check valve, and crank seal. I did the crank seal 2 times and I still think this may be the culprit. First time I tapped the seal in as deep as the housing would allow, although I could not see any wear on the crank shaft, I read here that you should set it so it is a little proud of flush. Second time that is how I installed it, a little proud of flush, however, I greased the outside with a little vasaline and I didn't need to tap it at all, I easily pushed it in by hand. Now that I still have the leak I am wondering if it was a huge mistake to lube the outside. Should I install another new seal, proud of flush, minus any lubrication?
