loose at the top... Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Wed, 5 Jun 2013 18:15:01 In Reply to: Re: are you sure it's the rear?, TG, Wed, 5 Jun 2013 16:37:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
funny you mention that... how did you install the spacers on the old shocks? was it a complete disassembly or did you find a way to do it in situ? What did you do with the nuts on top? What brand of shocks?
I say this because when I first put the konis on, my ride height was waaaay high in the back. Konis have a clip based perch, so I thought I'd save some effort and compress it in situ, lower the clip to drop it down 2cm and all would be good... well (aside from the overall ride height dropping way less than 2cm), a few 1000 miles later, one of the top nuts worked loose, and everything came apart. It was a small rattle at first and eventually it sounded like a bag of tools clanging around on that wheel...
I don't know for sure if it was due to compressing the shock in situ and having things not seat right, or just a matter of the double nuts locked together coming loose, anyway, that's something to look into if you used a double nut or reused a lock nut or something. I had never, ever, had a double nut come apart on me, but the shock, vibration, and forces there are significant... so when I got it home and redid the whole job, I made sure to put loctite on the nuts!!
anyway, just in case that helps... good luck!
