Most likely the motor alignment was off. I'm using the kit from eeuroparts, and one really needs to attach it to the motor, align it properly, before installing it -- not what I had done. (Makes for a difficult installation, though; I couldn't put the bottom screw of the air elbow on.) Pulled out the motor and properly realigned the BD kit, and then installed it. I get cold air after calibration now! Forgot to check if heat works, will worry about in the winter.

What makes me wonder is how long before the inner shaft breaks too, given that it takes quite a bit of torque to move the flaps. The entire assembly looks and feels cheap.
