According to NADA, the value of that cat is somewhere in the $2,500-$4,800 range (clean trade-in up to clean retail price). That's for either the 4 or the V6.
How good a value depends on which engine...
The V6 is a very good engine, but it requires the timing belt to be replaced (along with other bits) every 60,000 miles. Anything after that, and the motor is on borrowed time. A broken belt means pistons crash into valves and ruin your whole month. Search this forum for "V6 timing belt". Basically, if you have no knowledge of when the belt was last changed, change it!
The 4 is also a very good motor, tracing its roots to the 1980s in the Saab 900 and 9000. But early implementations in the 9-5 can have problems with sludge. There are fixes for it (search here for "PCV 6" and "sludge"), but major repairs may be in order if it is not taken care of properly.
I've so far had 2 V6s and 2 4s, and they've all been fine for me, though I did do the timing belts on both V6s soon after I bought them for peace of mind.
