As others have posted, the "typical" CPS failure allows you to restart the engine after it has cooled.
The "typical" confirmation of a bad CPS (or associated wiring/control) would be to see if the tach needle is moving while cranking the engine (with or w/o engine start).
A co-worker had a no-start on his 2001, and when I explained this test to him, I even went out in the parking lot, pulled the control wiring off my DIC, and cranked, showing the needle at a couple 100 rpm's. He went home, did the same on his, said the needle didn't move, replaced the CPS, but still no start. He replaced fuel pump, all is good.
With this being your first no-start, and cooling doesn't help, it seems unlikely to be the CPS, but try the tach test.
