Just to clarify...my sensor has 4 wires, not three.
Also, having been involved in the fabrication of specialty thermocouples, stainless sheaths are never soldered.....they are either high pressure crimped to avoid gas impregnation, or tack welded. Soldering introduces dissimilar metals that can form a small battery causing the temperature measurement to be wrong. This would be noticeable in the sensor that outputs 500-800 mV. My guess is that if the leads are stainless then the wires are actually part of the oxygen sensing circuit, being bonded to the platinum electrodes in the ceramic base. With exhaust gases in the neighborhood of 500-600 degrees Fahrenheit, copper wire would hold up and not make a good lead.
