Okay, here's the deal....

First of all, thanks for all the feedback - even the mindless ones.

Secondly, I took the car in yesterday and spoke with the tech. He stated that, according to the return code, first step is to replece the chip (first visit) and stop. Next return code (next step/2nd visit) is to replace the throttle body (internal electronics). They did that.

Car is running back to 'like new' again.

Part of the problem, indeed, is the dealer location, but I don't really think the dealer service dept is a problem.....more logistics than anything else. This is the South, darned few Saab dealers here -- so few Saabs that we recognize each other....

I will go to the web site with the recall notices -- THANKS.

AS far as the reliability issues go, I love my Saab's power, handling, and styling (cannot BELIEVE the Edmund's drivel), but I simply need to plan on reliability. If I need to make a choice between absolute reliability and 'soul' then, reliability is gonna win out. The reason I bought the Saab in the first place was I feel it's got the best of both worlds - reliability AND style. The technician pretty much told me that the throttle body replacement will close this one out -- they've replaced all the electronics now. We'll see.

p.s. on the Edmund's thing: Edmund's also loves the new Nissan Altima. I tested two Altimas pretty thoroughly before I bought the Saab. My verdict: Smells good, has a few toys, but it's a bucket of bolts. Hands down. Except for broad-brush stuff, I wouldn't trust Edmund's.

have a nice day all.
