Snow tires are generally narrower than regular summer rubber. They cut through snow but also have less mass making them MORE fuel efficient. COLD startups and temperatures do a number for engine fuel efficiency (smaller number:)).
Have fun in the snow in winter tires like me. Currently looking at a foot and half of fresh snow on the ground.
Cheers!
