Thermostat and Temperature Sensor, Done.
2k Aero nearing 170k miles.
OEM thermostat was a WAXSTAT Made in England ( still good according to the boiling in water and pot method ). Temperature gauge in the SAAB was low most of the time with intermittent up to a quarter high readings.
Replaced with a STANT 13399 (90 Celsius) and new seal bought separately. Can be oriented anyway when installed.
The temperature sensor was a BOSCH 969.
Replaced with BECK/ARNEY 158-1248 Made in Brazil. The difference is the core size of the sensor ( inside the engine installed ) is twice the size of OEM part. Maybe corrosion thinned the OEM part so much but it was VERY uniform corrosion if that was the case...
Thermostat housing has 4 BOLTS but it's not all that you see. 1 BOLT is indeed hidden. Only one bolt is on top, the other three are on the bottom. EASY TO MISS.
Flushed the coolant three times with DISTILLED WATER when engine was cold. From
GREEN to CLEAR to HYPER BLUE ( Pentosin brand ).
Also did the coolant bypass valve for the first time on this SAAB. I saw dried up color of coolant on the black valve itself. (Next time I'll buy the delete hoses for valve)
SAAB works like a champ again ( for a week now)
with the help of the SAABNET support group.
Cheers! Welcoming in 2014
