Recently bought a beautiful 03 Aero with 136K, Auto.
About 3 weeks and bout 500 miles ago, i hopped in the car after it has been sitting for bout 8 hours, started it up, let it idle for a few minutes, then while sitting there i reved it up a few times, let drop back to idle then it just died, tried to start it again and it didnt want to start without my foot on the gas a slight amount, also would not idle, just die CEL on. I drove it home found the Thottle body to be in Limp home mode, got the code read, twas P1230, deleted the code, reset limp home mode, ran fine, idled where and how it is supposed to. Few days later i removed the TB and cleaned the piss out of it, repaced all the vacuum lines that i could get to and sprayed off the MAF with cleaner. Since then, no LHM, no CEL and i have only caught it doing some slight RPM dance at idle a few times. When i start car when its cold it idles around 1200 or so like normal, but as its slowing calming down to reg. idle it will vary up and down ever so slightly (only noticeable by looking at the tach) Also when it is doing this the engine sounds as if it is skipping a few beats. Cabin vibration is real noticeable at this point, more on that later. onto part two....
Last weekend I changed the air and fuel filters and spark plugs, when changing the plugs the old ones that i removed, PFR6H-10's of unknown age, one of them caught my eye, it dont look like the other normal lookin 3. I have included some pics of that. i can say with about 80% certainty that it came out of CYL #2.
At idle the vibration is pretty bad, it will make the coffee cup in the cup holder wiggle around, sometimes its better but almost always annoying. some of the time popin it into Neutral while at a light will make it less but still noticeable, other times it will make no difference. I have replaced the lowest front tranny mount, (the really easy one with 2 bolts) and it really didnt make any difference, the other three i have not touched and very well may be the originals.
Is there any good way to check them mounts other then just looking at them? DO you think this vibration is because of some worn motor mounts? some other mounts? or you think its all being cause by a Throttle body thats on its way out? BOth? And whats up with that funny looking spark plug? another note is according to the SID im getting 18MPG, granted most the time my car an i spend together is in slow traffic or driving on residentail streets, when i reset the SID before a 150 trip it showed 21Mpg but then went back down to 17-18 during the work week and traffic...
