Loud Tick Sound Posted by saabjon [Email] (#1450) [Profile/Gallery] (more from saabjon) on Mon, 20 Jan 2014 06:09:51 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a 2002 saab 9-5 4cyl that has 210,000 miles on it. Approximately, 20,000 miles ago it developed a loud tick sound at start up and you can hear it when you drive under 30 mph. The tick sound becomes quitter when the engibe gets warmer. When I drive over 40 mph I do not hear any tick sound at all. The car always has power and except for the loud tick sound the car runs good. I should also note that I am the original owner and the car has always had a nasty oil leak..When I was taking it to saab they told me they didn't know where it was coming from but they could take the engine out and replace the head gasket for $3000.00 to see if that stop the leak..my response was no thank you. Anyway could it be the valve lifters causing this noise. and if so would it make sense to buy a used head and replace the entire head. Costs is an issue ... any advice is appreciated.
